I’d like to see the spam bots make fake registrations now

For anyone that doesn’t know (which is probably everyone [in the entire world!]) I’ve been getting tonnes of registrations to the site from names/emails like JamIroloWrona/insimigrw@gawab.com and endummimemn/swaxicice@gawab.com. Obviously these are fakes, hopefully by bots, and should be prevented now since I’m using reCAPTCHA on the registration form.

And that’s about all I have to say. I know I don’t post on here very much ever, but ah well I don’t think anyone reads this stuff very much ever.

Telus annoys me…

So I had just gotten home from work and decided to check my email and stuff before I went to bed. On a whim, I decided to see how many text messages I had sent in the last month. I hadn’t checked my cell phone account for quite some time, because I had set everything up with auto payments, and auto renewals. I had chosen the “messaging 2500″ plan, which allows for 2500 texts in a 30-day period, for $10.00 (a bargain considering that one text is $0.15 without a plan, and I text a fair amount). Anyway, when I checked the last 30 days in the “data usage summary”, I see that I’ve been charged $118.50 for a little over 1000 text messages! Well, this can’t be right, I’m thinking, so I have a look at my transaction history, and from November 21 onward, I’ve been charged $0.15 for every text message. Well I’m not very happy at all now, so I scour the Telus site and figure out how to send them an email, and then I write up this little piece of correspondence. (more…)

A rant about work

So here I am, laying in bed, 4:40 am. Nothing better to do than peruse the internet, like usual. I’m not really tired yet so sleep isn’t appealing to me, and I’ve pretty well exhausted my usual haunts (although I haven’t scoped out the AutoIt forums because the site’s not responding, otherwise I wouldn’t be here) so I figured why not write something to go on the blog. I’ve really been neglecting it lately and I’d like to say it’s because of work, which to be fair has interfered a bit, but I have had some time to write, and I just put it off. I always have good intentions of sitting down and writing about a few ideas or opinions that I want to share, or at least get recorded somewhere, but every time I get up the gumption to do it the enthusiasm kind of fizzles out once the site loads up, and then I start perusing the internet again. But this time is different, now I’ve loaded up the page and I’ve already started writing, and once I get started I can sometimes go on for a while… (more…)

Super Smash Bros. Brawl – ARRRGH!!#!@$~

From Smash Bros. Dojo:

Due to delays in the completion of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, we’ve had to change the release date of the game to Sunday, March 9th.

I deeply apologize to the people who have looked forward to playing the game for so long and ask that you hold on just a little longer. Thank you for your patience.

Goddamnit! And here I was, counting down the days to go until it was released. It would have been 22 days from today… now it’s 50. :(

Still slow, huh?

So I’m gonna try letting the blog loose again.  I don’t know how well it’s going to work, but I have to give it a try just so I can see how well it’s (not) working.

I’ve been back and forth with Globat’s tech support, (I think I had like 3 support tickets going or something…) and at first they weren’t even acknowledging that there was any problem. I kept getting replies that were basically, “It’s working fine, not our fault.” To be fair, they weren’t actually that rude, but that was the impression I got from them. But now they at least seem to be willing to admit that there might be a problem. I think the only reason I’m getting any attention though is because I replied to one of their automated, “Early Renewal GloCentive” emails with the following:

I don’t suppose that if I reply to this address anyone will even see this,
but just in case, I’d like to say that if things don’t improve with my site
soon I don’t think I’ll ever be renewing my account.

Although it still took them 5 days to give me a human response, and at first they were just like, “What’s wrong?” They even said that if I replied to that email, “it will go directly to our tier 2 techs to which I’m escalating this ticket to.” The first thing I thought when I read that was, “great, now I get to re-explain the problem, point out the support ticket I already have going, etc” but before I got around to replying to that email, I received a second email (with the new support ticket number, so I knew it wasn’t just a reply to the old ticket) that actually said their “SAs” (system administrators I guess?) are working on the slowness issues. So far nothing seems to have changed, the only thing that seemed to have had any effect whatsoever was when I moved all the WordPress SQL tables to their own DB, and CPG’s as well. That seemed to provide a bit of a speed boost, but that was something I did myself a while ago, not anything that’s happened recently.

I’m hoping that they weren’t just trying to butter me up with the whole “working on the slowness” talk, and that they actually ARE working on it. If I don’t see some results soon though, they told me to talk to them again and they’ll actually transfer me to another server, although unless they stop overloading their servers that’s just going to be another delaying action. Eventually the new server will fill up and the whole mess will repeat itself. I’m going to give them the benefit of the doubt for now though. But I’m certainly not going to keep my eyes closed to other web hosts.
