Quick post: What’s new

Work lately is kinda sucking. Not due to the work itself, but rather for the lack of it. I got my car fixed, from when the transmission died on me just before Christmas, and the bill was quite hefty so now with work availability being so lack luster it’s got me a bit nervous.

I picked up a few games for the DS in the last little while. I grabbed Elebits: The Adventures of Kai and Zero and picked up Final Fantasy VI Advance off of eBay (okay so that’s not a DS game, but I’m playing it on my DS). I was playing them both back and forth, favoring Elebits at first and I’m currently near the end of the game (at least I think I am…) but I’ve kind of lost interest in it and am now playing FF6 instead. I never did beat this game back on the SNES. I once borrowed the cart off a friend but lost interest shortly after I hit the World of Ruin (about the halfway point of the game for those that don’t know [or care, heh]). That was over 10 years ago now though so as I’m playing through I’m not remembering much, just scattered things here and there. I also picked up Avalon Code because I played a demo for it and thought it was really interesting. I’m not playing it yet though, I’m fighting the urge to check it out because I know that if I get into it then FF6 is going to be left by the wayside and I’d really like to finish it this time.

My nephew is now eating baby food and drinking juice. I have a picture.

Cornell drinking

Fact: He is cute. That is all.

Chrono Trigger

For those of you that know me, I’ve been a bit of a Chrono Trigger nut for a long time. Ever since I first watched my parents play through the game actually (yeah my parents played video games). I ran a fan website for the game for the longest time (my first delvings into webdesign actually) and I must have played through the original SNES cartridge about 20 times (I had all my characters level 99, with all the stats maxed out except Magus’ magic power). So it should come as no surprise that when I read about a remake coming out for the DS I was more than excited. Even if it sucks balls I’ll probably still pick it up.

Gotta go.

Half-Assed Game Review: No More Heroes

So I bought this game, No More Heroes, for the Wii several days ago and beat it in about 3 days. Not very long but I really enjoyed it. You play the part of Travis Touchdown, an oddball otaku who won a lightsaber, er, I mean beam katana, through some kind of online auction and decides to try contract killing. He takes a job to kill some guy named Helter Skelter and succeeds. Apparently this puts him at rank #11 in the US Assassins Association (UAA) and some French hottie he meets at a bar encourages him to work his way up to number 1. The gameplay follows a fairly standard routine. To begin each rank up mission you need to pay a substantial sum to the UAA (the first fee was around $50,000, the last was $550,000) which means you need to go make some money, and making money in this game is not immediately as easy as running out and killing some bad guys. First you take some demeaning part-time job, and then if you do well you’re offered an assassination gig. The part-time jobs ranged from coconut collecting to pumping gas to land mine removal. Once you have enough money, it’s off to your ranked fight, and once you’re done that, the whole cycle repeats itself, but don’t get me wrong, I really did enjoy the game. No sarcasm intended.

If you’re not content with my half-assed review though, just check out Yahtzee’s take on the game.

Lost Winds for Wii

So for those of you that don’t know, I have a Wii (like most males, haw haw Wii/penis jokes are so funny) and the Wii now has WiiWare. One of the games available for WiiWare is LostWinds, which I had seen a trailer for a few months ago, and looked pretty good, so I figured for $10, why not. It was quite good, but unfortunately, it was also quite short, I beat it in a mere 4 hours, and I wasn’t even trying hard. The ending stated “to be continued”, which it pretty well had to because the story wasn’t near to being complete. It was akin to ending on chapter one of an eight chapter book. Otherwise though it was quite fun, not sure if I’d have spent the money if I’d known it would be so short, but then again, I’ve spent more than $10 on less than 4 hours of fun.

Edit: Additional link for LostWinds.

Yes, I have Brawl!

So I finally got my grubby mitts on a copy of Super Smash Brothers: Brawl. Only had to wait almost 3 weeks from release date, sheesh. Oh well, I’ve been working so much lately I wouldn’t have been able to play it much anyway. Looks like I might actually get some time off for a bit though (fingers crossed, knock on wood, etc). For now, though, I think I’ll be going because it’s 06:46 hrs and I should probably get to sleep.

Quick note though, I did a bunch of little updates to the site, I believe it’s all XHTML 1.0 compatible (Edit: Scratch that, apparently I have a bunch of errors I wasn’t expecting. I guess I’m not allowed to nest <script> tags within <ul>’s. That sucks…), not that I’m really concerned about it, but it’s probably a good idea. I also added some nifty little bells and whistles here and there, like to the login dialog, and the sidebar menu. That’s all for now though, time to go.

Eye gotz a Nintendo Dee Ess

I bought a Nintendo DS (or NDS as I shall now call it) back in January (the 18th, exactly), and have been playing it almost RELIGIOUSLY ever since. I picked up Brain Age, and Kirby Squeak Squad - I beat the Kirby game in a matter of a few days, which was expected, the Kirby games aren’t usually hard, but they’re fun. Then I borrowed a few games from a friend – Lost Magic, and The New Super Mario Bros. I’ve mostly been playing Lost Magic (and now have my own copy) and am almost at the end. I’ve got something like over 40 hours of game play, so needless to say I’m enjoying it. I also bought a few games online, Mega Man ZX (which I’ve beaten on easy, and really enjoyed) and it’s sequel, ZX Advent, and also Children of Mana, then I picked up Drawn To Life at Wal-Mart. So yeah, I’m up to seven games already (the fastest any of my game collections has grown) so I should be busy for a while. Which is also my explanation for why I’ve been absent lately (I’ve also been working a fair amount) and why I’m going to continue to be fairly absent. I’ll try and put the game down every now and then to at least leave a passing comment on here though.

Super Smash Bros. Brawl – ARRRGH!!#!@$~

From Smash Bros. Dojo:

Due to delays in the completion of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, we’ve had to change the release date of the game to Sunday, March 9th.

I deeply apologize to the people who have looked forward to playing the game for so long and ask that you hold on just a little longer. Thank you for your patience.

Goddamnit! And here I was, counting down the days to go until it was released. It would have been 22 days from today… now it’s 50. :(

Not dead, just distracted. Been playing games.

So yeah, I haven’t posted here in a while have I? I guess I should do something about that…

This is me doing something about that.

Anyway, yeah, I’m not dead, and the blog isn’t dead either, just comatose (the blog, not me, although when I’m asleep…). Call it hibernation for winter if that makes you feel better, although I’m really quite sure that what I say or do on my own personal blog really doesn’t have much bearing on how any of you (total of maybe 3 people) feel, and if it does – SEEK HELP. Immediately.

Anyway (I start a lot of sentences with “anyway”, did you notice that?) the reason that the blog has been so dead quiet is because I’ve been distracted (just like the title says) playing games (I believe the title mentions this as well). I bought Super Mario Galaxy for the Wii (wheeeee!) and it’s quite a bit of fun. I’m up at like 33 stars and I’ve been enjoying most of it. Also, I’ve been up at my friend’s place playing Assassin’s Creed (cus he gots da PS3, not me) like a MADMAN. I have to totally give him props, or cred, or whatever the cool kids are saying these days, because he’s totally let me monopolize his system for the last three days - enjoying the hell out of HIS game, which he hasn’t beaten, or barely even played – while he sits there watching or playing some DS game that he’s not as engrossed in as I am with Creed (which is what I’m calling it from now on because it’s shorter, although by adding this sentence to explain that fact I’ve kind of defeated the purpose). I’m currently up on the 7th assassination IIRC which means, to the best of my assumptive (yes that’s actually a word) knowledge, that I’m 2/3 of the way through the game, as it appears from the menus and such that there are a total of 9 assassinations, perhaps 10. I’ve not been collecting all the flags, as I’m dreadful at noticing them – I can’t count how many times I’ve been running down the street (in the game, I don’t run IRL [read: lazy]) and gone whizzing right past a flag just as Ed would look up from his game and go, “Flag.”
To which I’d stop my headlong rush through the crowd and say, “What? No way.. where?”
Then I’d meander back through the path I’d come and find the flag, sitting just barely off to the side, mocking me for not having noticed it – hell for not having picked it up by accident, I’ve done that a few times as well – when I ran past it not 10 seconds ago. At this point I’ll vent my frustration a little by killing some random guard, which may or may not set off all the surrounding guards, at which point I’ll either run away like a leetle monkey (?), or stick around and proceed to decimate my foes with my ability to counter every attack that comes my way – or get hit in the nuts when I try to grab (I need an adult!).

Shit, gotta wrap this up… uh… bye?

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption – Beaten!

Yay! First Metroid Prime game I’ve beaten. Just couldn’t get the hang of the controls for the GameCube games (so I’ll probably never beat 1 & 2). At 99% completion too, only missed one missile tank, but I’ll be damned if I’m going to search through the entire freaking game to find it.

Also: I got a Wii. Wheeeeeeee!

And stuff.
